London, UK – 5 September 2003 - At the Broadband World Forum 2003 in London, Siemens ICN will report on possibilities to replace today’s TDM equipment with a Multi-Service-Access device based on DSLAM platform. Carriers will benefit from these methods by lowering CAPEX and OPEX substantially.

DSL technology is rolled out today mainly as an overlay to existing voice infrastructure. Only the last copper mile is shared, and the signals are frequency separated by splitters. Once the lifetime of the TDM equipment comes to an end, many Incumbent Local Exchange Carriers (ILECs) will have to decide what type of equipment will be the line frame for voice-services. Siemens ICN will show possibilities for how a Multi-Service-Access device based on DSLAM- platform can be used for this purpose. The goal is to have only one type of equipment in the local exchange after the replacement, lowering CAPEX and OPEX. It is very important for the success of this process that voice carriers have the freedom to decide how fast their voice services will be migrated from a TDM to an NGN IP network. This means that both the TDM interfaces like V5.x/GR303 and the NGN interface of a H.248-controlled IP access gateway must be part of the story.

The presentation will be held on September 9, 2003 at 3pm in Novotel London (West London).
