UK Provider of Data Storage Solutions Purchases (3)FlexSM Ethernet Services from Level 3 to Link Six Key European Markets

LONDON, October 1, 2003 - Level 3 Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:LVLT) today announced that it has signed an agreement to provide Ethernet data networking services to InTechnology, one of the UK's leading providers of data storage solutions and services. More specifically, InTechnology is using Level 3’s (3)Flex Ethernet service to securely and reliably transport data between London, Paris, Amsterdam, Munich, Milan and Madrid to support the company’s business on the continent following its acquisition of Allasso, one of Europe’s leading specialist distributors of IT security products. InTechnology also purchases (3)Center® Colocation services from Level 3.

“We chose Level 3 because its broadband infrastructure offers the premium performance and reliability we require for our European network following the acquisition of Allasso,” said John Swingewood, chief technology officer for InTechnology. “In particular, we were also pleased with Level 3’s willingness to offer flexible options in order for us to increase the capacity of the network when required.”

Founded in 1983, InTechnology specialises in the field of data storage, management and protection and works with companies such as Hewlett Packard, IBM and Sun Microsystems. Following the acquisition of Allasso they are now operating in seven countries across Europe.

“InTechnology is a long established, successful distributor of data storage solutions in the UK,” stated Brady Rafuse, president of Level 3 in Europe. “We’re delighted that InTechnology has chosen Level 3 to help them with this new phase of development, and look forward to working with them to help deliver their wide range of services throughout Europe.”

(3)Flex Ethernet service offers customers secure data transmission to and from over 75 major markets in the U.S. and Europe. Additionally, (3)Flex Ethernet features a new local access capability that extends the ease of use and cost effectiveness of transporting data from local area networks (LANs) common in businesses to the wide area networks (WANs) that comprise today’s broadband networks.

Level 3 markets (3)Flex Ethernet to its service provider customers through its direct sales force, and to enterprise customers primarily through other service providers, system integrators and value-added resellers.

Level 3 is also one of the largest providers of colocation space in the world, operating more than 70 carrier-neutral data centre facilities in 66 markets in the U.S. and Europe. Colocation customers in most major cities can access 8 to 10 other network providers in each Level 3 facility.
