News Release: V-chip importance resurges following US Senate legislation &large fines for indecency on TV

Tri-Vision International Ltd./Ltee (TSX:TVL) is pleased by news from the United States Senate that proposed legislation will promote the use of v-chip.

The Senate Commerce Committee voted 23 to 0 yesterday to approve legislation that would raise fines
for indecent broadcasts up to $500,000. The legislation would also make it a crime to distribute unrated violent programming that would escape detection by the v-chip. 'This legislation, if enacted, will give v-chip the support it needs to be the effective tool it can be for our children,'said V-chip inventor Professor Tim Collings. 'The legislation can give the needed push to make sure all program distributors provide consistent and accurate ratings and make sure every parent is aware of the benefits of the v-chip.'

The Fox television network already runs a Public Service Campaign to educate parents about v-chip and CBS, ABC, and NBC have recently promised to begin such campaigns. The National Association of Broadcasters is to hold a forum in Washington on the subject later this month.

More than 80 million television sets in the United States are equipped with at least some form of v-chip and many already employ the open v-chip system that is the standard for digital television sets outlined in a number of industry documents.
