News Release: Aecon awarded more than $55 million in civil construction contracts

Aecon Group Inc. (TSX: ARE) today announced that its Civil/Utilities division has been awarded three contracts by the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) valued at more than $55 million.

The first contract award is for the rehabilitation of eleven bridge structures on Highway 427 in Toronto between the QEW/Gardiner interchange and Dundas Street. Construction on this $11.5 million project has begun and will be completed by November 2003. The second project is for the construction of a 6.5 kilometre extension to Highway 417 west of Ottawa near the village of Kinburne. The $22 million contract includes the building of a four-lane section of new highway and the construction of a bridge. Work will begin in October and be completed by June 2005.

The third contract is for the upgrading and widening from four to six lanes of a 10.2 kilometre section of Highway 401 from County Road 97 to Homer Watson Blvd. near Kitchener. The $22.6 million project also includes the rehabilitation of three bridges. Work will begin this month and be completed by June 2005.
