News Release: Drilling to Commence on Candle Lake Diamond Project

GREAT WESTERN GOLD CORP. ("GWG-V;GWGCF-0")
Neil P. Yingling, President, is pleased to announce that, further to the news release of March 6, 2002, drilling will commence shortly on the Company's 80%-owned Candle Lake diamond project. Up to four previously selected drill targets will be tested using HQ-size (2.5 inches diameter) drill-coring equipment. The targets were selected based on ground electromagnetic resistivity surveys carried out in the vicinity of the two diamond-bearing kimberlites located on the property. Three of the targets are near Pipe 29/30 and are located outside the magnetically-determined boundaries of the kimberlite (from ground magnetic surveys), but are suspected to represent the same kimberlite pipe. One target is in the vicinity of Pipe 28, and appears to represent a new, distinct kimberlite pipe.

Resistivity surveys have been successful elsewhere in Saskatchewan in locating significantly greater thicknesses of kimberlite than can be interpreted from magnetic surveys alone and in significantly increasing the aerial extent of the kimberlite bodies.

The results of the drill program will provide a better understanding of the true geometry of the kimberlites and help identify the optimum location for a larger mini-bulk sample.
