Chinese Local Government to Supply SinoCoking Underground Syngas Project With Extensive Gas Pipeline Distribution Network

PINGDINGSHAN, China, Sept. 16, 2014 -- SinoCoking Coal and Coke Chemical Industries, Inc. (SCOK), a vertically-integrated coal and coke processor, today said that the local government of Pingdingshan has agreed to provide the company with an extensive gas pipeline distribution network and gas storage system as well as a land allotment of over 7.5 square miles of high-quality coal, all of which will support the development and continuing operations of SCOK's recently announced $300 million underground mine coal-to-syngas conversion project.

Additionally, the government of Pingdingshan may issue "significant" financial grants to SinoCoking after assessing the project's initial performance.

SinoCoking Announces New Underground Coal Gasification Project; Gross Profit of $30 to $45 Million Expected in 2015

PINGDINGSHAN, China, Sept. 9, 2014  -- SinoCoking Coal and Coke Chemical Industries, Inc. (SCOK), a vertically-integrated coal and coke processor, today said it has signed an exclusive agreement with both the Institute of Process Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the North China Institute of Science and Technology to refine and implement a technology that will be used, beginning next month, to convert the 21 million tons of coal at four SinoCoking underground mines into syngas, a clean burning fuel.

The technology will accomplish this conversion without releasing meaningful levels of carbon dioxide or other greenhouse gases above ground, said SinoCoking.

("Lybica"), a wholly-owned subsidiary of OAO Severstal, among others, to acquire all of the issued and outstanding shares of Lybica's wholly-owned subsidiary, PBS Coals Limited ("PBS"), in an all-cash transaction for consideration of US$60 million , subject to customary adjustments for working capital and debt (the "Transaction").

Sherritt to Divest of Coal Assets for $946 Million and Focus on Core Businesses

Sherritt International Corporation ("Sherritt" or "the Corporation") (TSX:S) today announced it is divesting its coal business for total consideration of $946 million.

A group led by Altius Minerals Corp., will acquire Sherritt's entire royalty portfolio and its interest in coal development assets for cash consideration of $481 million, subject to closing adjustments.

Westmoreland Coal Company ("Westmoreland") will acquire Sherritt's operating coal assets, currently described as the Prairie and Mountain Operations, for total consideration of $465 million, comprised of $312 million in cash and the assumption of capital leases presently valued at $153 million, subject to closing adjustments.
