Ensuring that Cloud Services can be provided securely and reliably across wide area networks is a challenge that can be addressed with Synchronized Traffic Generation

ANDOVER, Massachusetts, February 23 – Napatech recently released advanced features for synchronized traffic generation that can be beneficial for testing and securing cloud services. Availability and security are prime concerns for cloud service users, but can be a challenge for cloud service providers to assure without the proper test infrastructure. Napatech Synchronized Traffic Generation helps address this challenge enabling cloud service providers to test and secure their cloud service on an end-to-end basis across wide area networks.

The Napatech synchronized traffic generation features, available on the latest Napatech intelligent network adapters, allow full load traffic to be generated from multiple systems at multiple geographic locations with nanosecond time precision. This functionality can be used to simulate multiple cloud service users accessing the cloud at precisely the same time. In addition it is possible to simulate a Distribute Denial of Service (DDoS) attack on the cloud that can help diagnose any issues with end-to-end security before a service is offered to customers.

“Cloud services are taking off globally with more and more users choosing to outsource IT operations,” stated Erik Norup, President and CMO Napatech. “However, to ensure the long-term success of cloud services, it is important that users are assured that their data is safe and available to them whenever they need it. In addition, the service should feel like it was installed on your desktop rather than at entirely different location. Therefore latency is extremely important. The Napatech Synchronized Traffic Generation functionality can help address all these points.”

The Napatech Synchronized Traffic Generation functionality is available on the latest Napatech intelligent network adapters, which are used by OEM vendors of test and measurement systems to provide affordable traffic generation systems based on off-the-shelf standard servers. The solution takes advantage of Napatech nanosecond precision time-stamping and synchronization and the capability of Napatech network adapters to precisely control traffic generation including configurable time delays and control of Inter-Frame Gaps (IFG). To enable synchronized traffic generation at a given location, the traffic generation system must be time synchronized using either GPS, CDMA or IEEE1588v2 PTP time synchronization. There is no limit to the number of traffic generation systems that can be used with this approach.

“With Napatech Synchronized Traffic Generation functionality, OEM vendors can provide three valuable solutions for cloud service providers, “continued Norup. “ Firstly, simulated load testing of the cloud service over the wide area network using multiple systems at multiple locations can be performed. Secondly, latency monitoring and measurement where Synchronized Traffic Generation is performed both to and from multiple geographic locations and the cloud service location to measure with nanosecond precision the latency experienced by each simulated end user. Thirdly, simulation of a DDoS attack from multiple geographic locations to ensure that the cloud security infrastructure is adequate. With these three solutions, cloud service providers can address the main concerns of users with regard to performance, availability and security.”

Napatech will be hosting a Synchronized Traffic Generation demonstration at the upcoming RSA 2012 event in San Francisco from the 27th to the 1st of March. The demonstration can be seen on the Napatech stand 1657. For more information contact Napatech at www.napatech.com.

About Napatech

Napatech is the leading OEM supplier of 40 GbE, 10 GbE and 1 GbE intelligent adapters for real-time network analysis with over 80,000 Ethernet ports deployed. Napatech network adapters provide real-time packet capture and transmission with full line-rate throughput and zero packet loss no matter the packet size. Intelligent features enable off-load of data traffic processing and packet analysis normally performed in the CPU. This results in more processing power for the network monitoring, analysis, management, test, measurement, security or optimization application being supported. Napatech has sales, marketing and R&D offices in Mountain View (CA), Andover (MA), Washington D.C., Tokyo (Japan), Seoul (South Korea) and Copenhagen (Denmark).
