Semtech Announces Plans to Acquire Gennum Corporation

Semtech Corporation (Nasdaq: SMTC - News), a leading supplier of analog and mixed-signal semiconductors, and Gennum Corporation (TSX: GND.TO - News), a leading supplier of high speed analog and mixed-signal semiconductors for the optical communications and video broadcast markets, today announced they have entered into a definitive arrangement agreement ("Arrangement Agreement") for Semtech to acquire all of the outstanding shares of Gennum for a total consideration of approximately CDN$500 million (approximately US$494 million based on the exchange rate on January 20, 2012 of CDN$0.9868 to US $1.00).

Rovi Corporation (Nasdaq:ROVI - News) today announced that Amlogic, a leading fabless semiconductor company providing advanced solutions for a wide range of consumer applications, has introduced the first DivX Plus(R) HD solution available on an Android OS, via the Amlogic AML-8726M series chipset. The Amlogic DivX Plus HD solution is designed to enrich consumers' video viewing experience on devices such as digital televisions (DTVs), set-top boxes (STBs), media boxes, and tablets as well as provide secure playback of content from major motion picture studios on the Android CE platform.

Invensas Purchases 73 MoSys Patents

MoSys, Inc. (Nasdaq: MOSY - News) and Invensas Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tessera Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: TSRA - News), announced today that they entered into a patent purchase agreement. Under the agreement, Invensas purchased 43 United States and 30 foreign memory technology patents from MoSys for $35 million in cash. MoSys retained a royalty-free license to the patents to cover its Bandwidth Engine® product line and technology partners, along with related rights to offer sublicenses to current and future partners.

“The MoSys patents are very relevant to industry-standard DRAM products that have been shipping from the fabs of our potential licensees. The MoSys transaction represents an important milestone in our ongoing acquisition program,” said Simon McElrea, president, Invensas Corporation.

Rambus and Broadcom Sign Patent License Agreement

Agreement covers memory controllers and serial links on logic integrated circuits

Rambus Inc. (NASDAQ:RMBS - 新聞), one of the world’s premier technology licensing companies, announced today it has signed a patent license agreement with Broadcom Corporation (NASDAQ:BRCM - 新聞). This agreement covers the use of Rambus patented innovations in a broad range of integrated circuit (IC) products offered by Broadcom. In addition, the two companies have settled all outstanding claims, including resolution of past use of Rambus’ patented innovations. The term of this patent license agreement is five years. Other terms of the agreement are confidential.

Micron Technology, Inc., Reports Results for the First Quarter of Fiscal 2012

Micron Technology, Inc., (Nasdaq:MU - News) today announced results of operations for its first quarter of fiscal 2012, which ended December 1, 2011. For the first quarter, the company had a net loss attributable to Micron shareholders of $187 million, or $0.19 per diluted share, on net sales of $2.1 billion. The results for the first quarter of fiscal 2012 compare to a net loss of $135 million, or $0.14 per diluted share, on net sales of $2.1 billion for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2011, and net income of $155 million, or $0.15 per diluted share, on net sales of $2.3 billion for the first quarter of fiscal 2011.
